  • Can dirt and debris keep my outdoor cooling unit from operating properly?

Your sytem needs clean airflow to work properly. Anything that can affect airflow - such as dirt, bushes and "stuff" - can negatively impact your system's efficiency, leading to higher costs and placing an excessive burden on the sytem.

  • Do I need to perform regular maintenance on my HVAC system?

Yes! Your HVAC needs clean air to operate. Dirty filters will not only restrict airflow, but can also introduce dirty air into your sytem. Checking your ducting for leaks will help ensure maximum efficiency, which not only saves you in operating costs, but prevents execessive wear and tear on your sytem. Drain lines need to be flushed so backups - and resulting water damage do not occur. The list goes on and on...but hvac systems should be inspected quarterly or at least semi-annually!

  • There's a bad smell coming from my air vents...

Well, what does it smell like?

A musky smell of mold means there's likely some amount of mold or mildew built up somewhere in your system. Mold and mildew can build up in your air ducts if condensation doesn't drain properly.

If it's a burning smell (not the smell of gas), it could be the smell of the system turning on, or possibly due to dirty air filters or ducts where dust has built up.

If it smells like gas - stop and contact your gas company or someone certified to work with gas. Make sure your home is as ventilated as possible to let the gas escape while you wait for someone to come and investigate the source of the problem.
